Glossybox Review | June

Felicity & Ink | June Glossybox Review

So last month I decided to give Glossybox another go after trying it for a few months last year.
July’s was my first box, I used their welcome offer to get £5 off and 2 extra products so that’s why i have more products than you’d usually get each month. I love the whole idea of subscription boxes and I couldn’t wait to see what would be in my first box, it was a nice little surprise when it finally arrived. Glossybox is my favourite sub box that i’ve tried so far, i think it’s the beautiful packaging and the higher end feel of the products that swings it for me, anyway…

I’ve given each product a fair trial for a few weeks and typed up my short but sweet, unbiased opinions below.
In no particular order of favourites ( i will reveal in my 3 month review) i received…

Sanctuary – Ultimate Salt Scrub | RRP £13.50

Salt scrubs always leave my skin feeling extra soft and shiny, this one is no exception. It is quite oily so glides on super easy, the only thing i’m not sure of is the scent but i’ll take that for the way my skin feels after.

SHOP

111 Skin – Space Defence Bright Eye Lift Gel | RRP £110

This has worked wonders for the bags developing under my sleep deprived eyes as of late. I quite often get little red marks right on the outer corners too, i’ve noticed that when I use this, they definitely aren’t as visible. It’s a shame it’s so expensive, I can see why it carries such a high price tag but I definitely wont be buying a full size unfortunately.

SHOP

Manna Kadar Cosmetics – Sheer Glo | RRP £22.50

I really wanted to love this highlighter. It looked so beautiful when tested on my hand but unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype when applied on my face. I tried it both ways that were suggested; dabbed on top of my foundation on the cheekbones and nose, which just stripped my foundation straight off my face and didn’t look as luminous as i would have liked but maybe that is just me. I also tried adding a little to my foundation and mixing before applying but this just gave my foundation an awful texture and didn’t sit right on my skin at all.

SHOP

Sleek Makeup – Power Plump Crayon in Colossal Coral | RRP £5.50

I don’t usually go for a lip crayon as i find you don’t have as much control with the application, especially once the crayon starts to go blunt and you have to sharpen it, fall too much upkeep! This wasn’t a shade i’d see myself wearing and as expected it totally didn’t suit me, so I wasn’t a fan of this i’m afraid!

SHOP

Batiste – Stylist XXL Plumping Powder | RRP £3.99

I already had a tub of this that was running low, so this full sized surprised came at just the right time. I love this product, it gives my hair so much volume and makes it so much easier to style, even Jordan loves it for his hair. The only thing i’d say is it gives a strange texture, which isn’t visible but your hair definitely look great the next day unless it’s washed out.

SHOP

Beauty Pro – Black Diamond Peel Off Mask | £4.95 for 3

I’ve been wanting to try a black peel off mask for a while now, for my nose in particular. This one works great, I only needed to use a thin layer and it still peeled off all in one neat strip and it look loads of bad stuff with it!

SHOP

This Works – In Transit Camera Close Up | RRP £30

I’ve only used this for a couple weeks and i’m sold already! It is a mask, moisturiser and primer all-in-one i’m not sure how it works all i know is it leaves my skin feeling super smooth and my makeup glides on like a dream after using. It is even SPF 30, perfect for this time of year.

SHOP

Model Co – Mini Contour Stick | RRP £8

I’ve never used a contour that isn’t powder so using a creamy contour especially as a stick felt a little strange at first. I’d recommend using this if you have a little more time to spend on your makeup as it takes a little while to blend but the colour is great and it’s super handy to take on the go if you don’t fancy carrying a full contour palette with you.

My July Glossybox has now arrived!
Check out my Instagram to see the full unboxing on my story and i’ll be giving each product a full review here, same time next month.

Sounds of summer | Playlist

Sounds of summer playlist

Summer is finally upon us and i’ve definitely been feeling the heat down in London lately.

So it seems like the right time to bring the summer playlists back out. My sounds of summer playlist is all I can listen to lately, it’s packed full of super summery upbeat tunes. A lot of these are part of a playlist Jordan and I created last summer, which we played to death during our time in California, so a lot of these songs bring back a lot of happy sunshine memories.

Happy listening!

My skincare routine for oily & acne prone skin

Felicity & Ink - Oily & Acne Prone Skin - Skincare Routine

Over the past 6 or so years I have had a constant battle with my skin, it is extremely oily in the T-zone area and my chin and jaw line is constantly graced by the presence of acne. Some days I feel like I have it under slight control and it can be quite calm, others it just flares up out of nowhere and theres nothing I can do to hide it.

If anyone reading this is unfortunately suffering from adult acne also, you’ll know it’s not just the physical appearance of the condition that is unbearable but its also the burning and the pain, not to mention the embarrassment.

Over the years i’ve been trying to put together a full skincare routine that works for my difficult skin type. As my skin is obviously very sensitive it can be hard to find products that don’t aggravate the problem but i feel like i’ve finally found a routine that is doing a pretty good job of keeping things under control.

Over the years I have tried a mixture of prescribed antibiotics and topical treatments, at the minute i’m not using any but I hope to be referred back to a dermatologist very soon to get rid of the acne once and for all.

I’m by no means an expert and everyones skin is different but I just wanted to share what products are helping me keep my skin somewhat under control, so hopefully you’ll find something new that helps you.

Felicity & Ink - Oily & Acne Prone Skin - Morning Skincare Routine

Morning Routine

Nip + Fab Glycolic Cleansing Fix

I use this first thing every morning, the grapefruit scent makes my skin feel totally reenergised and awake. The main ingredient of glycolic acid works wonders for reducing acne scaring, which I have a lot of. This works by stimulating the production of collagen in the skin and by deeply exfoliating to even out the tops and bottoms of scaring.

The cleanser leaves my skin feeling so soft, fresh and deeply clean.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Scrub Fix

This exfoliator is gentle and effective enough to use every day, i generally use it every other day though. Depending on how dull and dry my skin is looking.

This is like a chemical peel in a tube, so i’ve heard. It is definitely working wonders for my skin, it has never been so soft!

The extra glycolic acid works well to reduce the redness of my acne aswell as the scaring it also helps to remove any dry skin around the area. The salicylic acid cleanses my pores and reduces them in size.

Felicity & Ink - Oily & Acne Prone Skin - Night Time Skincare Routine

Night Time Routine

Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser

I generally switch between this cleanser and the Nip + Fab cleanser at night time. I discovered this cleanser a few years back, whilst in the USA shopping in Target and totally loved it. After my first bottle ran out I had to wait until I was back in the States to restock as it wasn’t available in the UK. Thankfully it is now available online.

So at the end of the day I firstly remove the majority of my makeup with a fragrance free baby wipe or with some micellar water like this one and a cotton ball. I then go in with the Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser to make sure it is fully removed.

The cleanser is for normal to oily skin and does a great job of drawing the oil out of my skin for the majority of the night. The hyaluronic acid in there also helps to keep it hydrated by holding water in the top layer of skin, making the skin look younger and healthier.

The cleanser also contains ceramides, which are naturally occuring fats in the skin that help repair the skin barrier. Acne prone skin tends to have fewer ceramides so topping them can be beneficial.

Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate

This stuff is a miracle in a bottle! I was recommended it, along with the next product I use by a Kiehls skin care specialist during a consultation in New York.

I rub a couple of drops of the oil into my hands and pat into my face and neck, whatever is left over on my hands I rub into the ends of my hair and into my cuticles. It’s great for keeping everything soft and shiny in general.

I’m not sure how this stuff works, i just know that when I use it I wake up with super soft and radiant skin. Some might think that using an oil on oily skin is counter productive but actually it helps keep the oil production in my face under control. This works by stopping the skin thinking it needs to produce excess oil.

The concentrate is paraben free and also contains evening primrose oil, an omega 6 fatty acid that helps to regulate hormones. Theres no doubt my adult acne is hormonal so I also take evening primrose oil in a capsule form to try and combat the issue from the inside.

I always make sure to apply the concentrate underneath my moisturiser so it is fully absorbed into the skin.

Kiehls Rosa Arctica Lightweight cream

At first I wasn’t sure this moisturiser was doing my skin any good but throughout trialing my skin care routine, adding and removing products to see what was working and what wasn’t I definitely found that my skin was breaking out more when I wasn’t using it.

It has great anti ageing and hydrating properties, early 20’s is a great time to add anti ageing into your routine. It also contains Vitamin E, which is pretty much essential to keep acne at bay. Vitamin E helps to prevent sebum oxidation which is what blocks your pores up.

There are two versions of this moisturiser, make sure to purchase the lightweight version if you have oily skin, it has more of a water like texture when applied to the skin and blends straight in.

I mainly use this at night as sometimes it can be a bit heavy before applying makeup in a rush without allowing it to dry into the skin properly. The lavender oil in there is also super relaxing just before bed.

Kiehls Eye Alert

Lastly I dab a small amount of Eye Alert under each eye, never rub it in. It has a cooling effect and the caffeine and vitamins help to fight fatigue and the appearance of dark circles.

Shopping List

Do let me know if you use any of these products and how they work for you, in the comments below.

So it shall be no surprise that the calendar of April has been inspired by blossom trees and pink. <3

Blueberry & Banana Smoothie Bowl | Recipe

Felicity & Ink | Blueberry & Banana Smoothie Bowl Recipe

I’ve been so good at sticking to clean eating since the start of the new year, it’s probably because i’ve been more adventurous with the meals and snacks i’ve been preparing. I have the Lean in 15 recipe books to thank mostly for that and because i’m learning to balance my meals and snacks better.

I’m enjoying cooking and inventing my own clean recipes so much at the moment, so I thought i’d start to share them on here. That way I won’t forget whatever I make up also.

Just to give you a bit of background,  i’ve been on a bit of a health mission which has resulted in a weight loss of 30lbs since this time last year, which i’m pretty proud of! Over the course of that year though I would try and deprive myself of any high carb/sugar treats I was craving, which would then result in me falling completely off track and going on a full on binge.

SO, i’m learning that moderation is the key to making this change in lifestyle maintainable. I’d say I have more of a savoury tooth than a sweet one but when I crave sweet it’s almost always dairy milk. Now i’m letting myself have whatever i’m craving, but in moderation. If I let myself have dairy milk every time I craved it, i would be eating it almost every day. So instead i’ve been creating my own little sweet treats that are healthier and take the craving away and thats how this deliciously refreshing smoothie bowl was created.

Enjoy!

Over on Instagram a few weeks ago, I challenged myself to create a new illustration with a 9 hour deadline. In those few short hours my newest piece Aurora was born!

The zebra, lamps and small mandala were all drawn, shaded and coloured with marker pens in that time. Whilst polishing up the image in photoshop after scanning I did add a previously drawn mandala and some watercolour textures to finish it off. So all in all the full piece probably took around 11 hours, not bad. It’s not as detailed as i’d usually go, but with the time taken, i’m quite pleased with it.

You may be wondering, why did I set myself such a short deadline? Well the reason is, I had been putting off creating a new piece for a while and this was my way of kickstarting my brain into putting pen to paper as I really do work better under pressure. Adding more colour to my work is something i’ve been experimenting more with lately too, so with having a deadline I was forced into thinking of new ways to add colour to my usual comfort zone of monochrome.

The idea behind this piece was another one that just popped into my mind as I started drawing. I have been watching a lot of programmes and YouTube videos about space at the minute too, so I think thats where the partial inspiration was drawn from. The lamps I guess, add an urban twist which probably comes with living in the city now. The combination of bright colours, lights and the way the watercolours have merged together, inspired the name Aurora.

I’d love to know what you think, let me know using the contact form in the menu bar or get in touch on Instagram!

January | Vision Board

Felicity & Ink | January Vision Board | Banner

2017 is in full swing and a fresh year is a great time for a reset and a rethink of your goals and plans.

Now, i’m not one for new years resolutions, in past years I would have thought of one or two but experience tells me I won’t stick to them. To me one statement to work towards for a year is unrealistic and soon becomes daunting. Instead I prefer to break up any goals I have into monthly, weekly or daily ones to work towards something bigger.

So I have decided to start creating a monthly vision board to put together how i’m feeling, what my aim of the month is and what feels visually appealing to me at the time. Which in turn will hopefully help me create something new out of it afterwards. So lets start with January!

January, the month of new beginnings, fresh starts and new hopes.

This month for me, will be focused on my career and what I want out of it. I’m in a new city, so I want to take full advantage of that. It will also see the reboot of my health mission to lose the last of my unwanted weight and tone up.

What are your aims for January? Maybe try creating your own vision board, it doesn’t have to make sense to others, as long as it does to you. Putting one together is fun too, or is that just me?

2016 | Year In Review

Felicity & Ink Year In Review

I always feel reflective at this time of year and 2016 has been a pretty amazing year for me.

So I thought i’d put together a little post of all the things i’ve been grateful of this year. That way I have something to look back at this time next year.

So heres some things that have made 2016, probably the best year of my life to date.

Travelling to New York in January (and getting snowed in)

My trip to New York with my boyfriend Jordan is definitely what got 2016 off to the best start.

Not only because it was our first major trip together but the unforgettable events that happened when whilst we were there and just because well, it’s New York. I definitley want to visit again very soon!

Read my New York travel diary here.

Celebrating our 3rd anniversary at Edinburgh in march

We love Edinburgh, so celebrating our 2nd anniversary in a row in Edinburgh was perfect.

We spent a couple of days in the Scottish capital and stayed in a lovely apartment.

The past 3 years with Jordan have been absolutely perfect and I can’t wait to celebrate our fourth anniversary in March next year.

Being surprised with a Birthday trip to Harrogate in March

This was a lovely surprise from Jordan, i’d never been to Harrogate before. It’s such a cute town in North Yorkshire.

We spent the night at the Hotel Du Vin which was lovely, accompanied by a three course meal and lots of prosecco.

It was the best birthday ever!

Felicity & Ink, New York City Travel Diary Day 3 - 5th Avenue Shopping & Central Park

My amazingly supportive boyfriend

Jordan is literally my number one fan, which he tells me all of the time.

He’s the most loving and chilled person i’ve ever met. No matter the situation he is chilled and reassuring and always makes me feel better.

He supports everything I do and I don’t know what i’d do without him, especially the past couple weeks. I’m so glad we have shared so many amazing memories together and I can’t wait to make more.

Losing 25lbs and counting

At the beginning of this year I set out to become healthier and lose some weight. Like many, i’ve said this at the beginning of most years but this year I actually accomplished my goal.

I found a love for running at the start of Spring which helped a lot, this combined with weights, pilates and a low carb and no sugar diet all contributed to a huge weight loss. The fact I had a trip to LA planned in the summer was good motivation too.

This is the most comfortable i’ve felt with my body, something i’ve wanted to feel for a long time. I still have a little way to go and shall be adding a lot more exercise and a stricter diet into my life in the new year.

Travelling to LA in August

It has always been a dream of mine to visit California, it finally happened this summer and it definitely did not disappoint!

I literally had the best summer ever this year, which this trip with Jordan was a huge part of.

I have never felt so chilled and laid back as when I was there, it is such a beautiful and surreal place. It is now my dream to live there someday.

Theres still a travel diary to come about this trip so keep checking back or even better, subscribe for updates.

Finding out i’m going to be an Aunty in October

This was an unexpected one but probably the most super special one!

I’m so excited to go baby shopping and of course I can’t wait to meet the little guy or girl next summer.

We only have to wait a couple more weeks for my sister to have the scan and find out!

IMG_0156

Moving to London in October

Jordan and I had been thinking for a little while that we wanted to move somewhere different. One day we just said lets try and move to London and so we did.

We didn’t know when it would happen but our aim was before Christmas and we ended up here 3 months before.

London is such an amazing, hectic and cultured city and we are both loving living here so far and exploring what it has to offer.

IMG_0664

Mine and Jordan’s first home

Our London apartment is our first non student home together.

It’s been so much fun moving all of our stuff in and making it our own, we absolutely love it!

It’s like a little calm sanctuary in this super busy city, I love hearing the hustle and bustle going on outside though. So much so I found the silence too weird when we travelled back to the North East for Christmas.

Old friends and new friends

I’m always grateful for my friends i’ve made a lot of great new ones this year too.

I do wish it was easier to get to spend time with them all, everyone is scattered all of the country which makes it more difficult but when I do see them it’s always great.

IMG_0232

My family visiting me in London (and family in general)

In November my Mam and Sister made the journey from Newcastle to visit me.

My Mam had always said if I moved to London, she would not be able to visit me. She’s not really a fan of busy places and struggles with small spaces which would make it difficult for her to travel around the city without getting on the tube.

But only a month after moving, her and my sister came to visit and she ended up loving it. She even travelled on the tube numerous times and coped really well with it all, for which i’m super proud and of course it was lovely to see them and show them around our new home.

My family have been super supportive of my move to London in general, which i’m super grateful for.

Spending time with family at Christmas

We were pretty unsure if we would get to travel back to the North East this Christmas but pretty last minute we ended up being able to.

Its always good to spend time with the family but it’s even more special after moving so far away from them all.

After 4 years as a couple it was the first year Jordan and I actually got to spend Christmas day together, which was perfect!

I’m so excited to set new targets for 2017 and to create many more amazing memories.

I hope you all enjoy celebrating with your loved ones tonight and I shall see you in the new year!
