I’ve been so good at sticking to clean eating since the start of the new year, it’s probably because i’ve been more adventurous with the meals and snacks i’ve been preparing. I have the Lean in 15 recipe books to thank mostly for that and because i’m learning to balance my meals and snacks better.

I’m enjoying cooking and inventing my own clean recipes so much at the moment, so I thought i’d start to share them on here. That way I won’t forget whatever I make up also.

Just to give you a bit of background, Β i’ve been on a bit of a health mission which has resulted in a weight loss of 30lbs since this time last year, which i’m pretty proud of! Over the course of that year though I would try and deprive myself of any high carb/sugar treats I was craving, which would then result in me falling completely off track and going on a full on binge.

SO, i’m learning that moderation is the key to making this change in lifestyle maintainable. I’d say I have more of a savoury tooth than a sweet one but when I crave sweet it’s almost always dairy milk. Now i’m letting myself have whatever i’m craving, but in moderation. If I let myself have dairy milk every time I craved it, i would be eating it almost every day. So instead i’ve been creating my own little sweet treats that are healthier and take the craving away and thats how this deliciously refreshing smoothie bowl was created.

SERVES 2
PREP TIME | 10 MINUTES

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1 fresh banana
  • 1 handful of blueberries
    (save a few for the topping)
  • 1 handful of blackberries
  • half a cup of ice
  • 1 tsp agave nectar / honey
  • 2tsp desiccated coconut
  • 2tsp chia seeds

METHOD

  1. Blend together the frozen bananas, blueberries, blackberries, ice and agave nectar until smooth.
  2. Pour the mixture into two bowls.
  3. Slice your fresh banana and chop the blueberries into halves.
  4. Top your smoothie bowl with the sliced fruit.
  5. Sprinkle one teaspoon of desiccated coconut andΒ one teaspoon of chia seeds onto each bowl.
  6. Serve up and enjoy!
